There are armies of angels fighting hordes of demons, and the few humans that remain are caught in between. But this Earth is locked in eternal war between Heaven and Hell. Though Apocalypse World's angels appear to possess the same powers and weaknesses as their species in the Main Universe does (although the Apocalypse World version of Michael was stated to be much more powerful than his Main Universe counterpart), Apocalypse World's magic is implied to differ from the Main Universe's to some extent as the Main Universe's Supernatural Handcuffs became ineffective on the main reality's Lucifer in Apocalypse World. Time in Apocalypse World seemingly does not run concurrently to time in the Main Universe as when a rift linking the two universes was first opened, it was night on Apocalypse World while it was day on the main Earth, and later vice versa. Other parts of the world remain unscorched with wild forests and mountains, where human colonies and nests of surviving monsters are based. Gigantic angel blade-like pikes also protrude from the ground, with bodies impaled on them.
In these areas, the sky is constantly overcast and red lightning flashes in the clouds bodies and skeletons often litter the ground, and the only other remnants of life are the skeletons of dead vegetation.
In the years since the Apocalypse started, parts of the Earth's landscape including formerly-inhabited areas have been reduced to scorched wastes.
